Today, hundreds of thousands of people have either a written or electronic blog. Whether it’s read by millions of people, a small group of people, friends and family, or simply for personal use, blogging has become a vital tool for many people. Over the past few years, many people have launched blogs. A handful of these blogs grow and become huge hits, but many never really take off and reach their maximum potential. So, what can You do to increase traffic? Take a look at some of these methods; a lot of these are proven to be useful and even we use some of these.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Search engine optimization is defined by Wikipedia as: “…the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” or un-paid (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion.” In simpler terms, this means that SEO is a free way to get the most traffic out of searches through Google, Bing, etc. It isn’t something that you can just be indexed for right away and get thousands of page views overnight, but over the course of a month, it can prove to be a very useful tool. In order to be added, search engines will use something called crawlers or bots to find pages to add to their engines. Not all pages will be added, but if your article has a lot of keywords and is actually receiving hits, crawlers are more likely to index it. So try to get seo done for your site. - Backlinks – A backlink is used to indicate what websites are linking to your website. When using SEO, they’re useful when trying to determine the popularity of an article or website. These can be very useful depending on how they’re used. Let’s say we partner with a blog that discusses completely different things. By backlinking to one another’s websites, it enables us to gain more new readers and appeal to a completely new audience. However, as mentioned in this article it is important to check your backlinks to avoid security issues.
- Directories – Blog directories are everywhere, and filled with thousands of different blogs. Out of the four promotion ideas we’ll mention, I personally think that directories don’t work as well as other methods, but if you add your blog to a lot of these directories, it’s more likely that you’ll get noticed by a few people, and it never hurts to have a few new regular readers.
- Social Media and Networking Websites – Finally, we have one of the biggest up-and-coming forms of promotion, social websites like MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc. These websites are all in the top 15 as far as page views are concerned. There’s really no guide on how you should market your blog through these websites, but we’ve tried to give out some tips for marketing with Twitter. When it comes to these websites, it’s really about getting people with the most friends, followers, or Fans to carry and post your link in some way. Twitter has also made some websites more successful than they already are, and who knows, maybe your website will be discovered and be the next big thing.
These are some of the few strategies bloggers use to market their website, but we strongly advise you to look into those four; you won’t be disappointed!
