Shah Rukh Khan’s latest offering ‘My Name Is Khan’ collection at most of the theatres has fallen to as low as twenty percent of occupancy on Thursday(remember this is still first week). The reports from almost all multiplexes and single screen theatres have indicated lack of interest on the part of audiences due to absence of entertainment value in the flick. For example, at Spice cinemas the collection for Shah Rukh Khan had been recorded at around thirty percent on Wednesday but fell to twenty percent on Thursday. Even at PVR cinemas, which had recorded the occupancy rate of around ninety percent on Sunday, it fell to around fifty percent on Monday itself. Everywhere, the fingers are being pointed towards the absence of anything typical of a Karan Johar flick which is famous for its entertainment value and mushy romance mounted on a big scale. The youngsters, who generally throng to multiplexes for a SRK starrer, are a disillusioned lot due to its serious subject and lack of fun segment. In any case, they spent money to have some fun and enjoy the moment which was not possible with ‘My Name Is Khan’. Now, everybody is wondering if not for Shiv Sena, where the movie would have been at the box office. Fortunately for Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar ‘My Name Is Khan’ grossed around ninety two crores on its first weekend world wide, mainly thanks to Shiv Sena’s opposition to the film. The movie created curiosity about Shah Rukh and his film all over the world due to threat from the Hindu party and led to its becoming one of the biggest openers of bollywood. However, once the Shiv Sena withdrew its opposition and Shah Rukh Khan ‘My Name Is Khan’ became on its own merit, the flick bombed at the box office with no takers for it. Industry insiders reveal that that similar thing had happened with Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer flick ‘Kurbaan’. That film too from Karan Johar did very well on its weekend due to huge publicity and Shiv Sena’s opposition to Kareena Kapoor baring her back but flopped after Sunday
